bringing great music to the PNW

Susanna Haley

Based in the greater Seattle area, violist and violinist Susanna Haley began private musical instruction on violin at age seven. She later attended the Academy of Music Northwest for four years, adding music theory, music history, conducting, composition and vocal arts to her music education. Susanna became especially interested in chamber music, and in 2013 co-founded the Aestate Quartet with several musician friends. Through the Academy of Music Northwest as well as workshops with Cornish College of the Arts she continued to refine her chamber music skills. It was during this time that she began studying viola with Brianna Atwell, discovering her love for the instrument’s unique sound.

Susanna currently freelances on both instruments throughout the Puget Sound area, and has performed with groups and artists such as Scrape, Evan Flory-Barnes, The Piano Guys, Mr. & Mrs. Muffins, and many symphonic orchestras. She performs regularly with Encanto Arts on violin and with Octava Chamber Orchestra as Principal violist. Her private violin studies are with Michael Jinsoo Lim.

In 2016, Susanna became involved with the Manhattan String Quartet’s music conferences, and is currently the Executive Director of their KentMusic-Seattle Conference and Conference Manager of their New York Conference. In January 2019, Susanna traveled to Bologna, Italy upon invitation to study quartet playing with the Manhattan String Quartet, and is anticipating returning to Italy in the fall of 2020 with Scherzo Cultural Journeys and renowned former members of the Manhattan String Quartet.

Alongside her music engagements, Susanna is in her senior year at the University of Washington as a foreign language student of German and Italian, with a major in European Studies. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, kayaking, and hiking.
